Summary

Impact SFTPGo supports execution of a defined set of commands via SSH. Besides a set of default commands some optional commands can be activated, one of them being rsync: it is disabled in the default configuration and it is limited to the local filesystem, it does not work with cloud/remote storage backends. Due to missing sanitization of the client provided rsync command, an authenticated remote user can use some options of the rsync command to read or write files with the permissions of the SFTPGo server process. Patches This issue was fixed in version v2.6.5 by checking the client provided arguments. https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/commit/b347ab6051f6c501da205c09315fe99cd1fa3ba1

Impact

What is OS command injection?

Untrusted input reaches a shell command, allowing arbitrary commands to run on the host. Typical impact: code execution in the application's environment.

Severity and exposure

CVE-2025-24366 has a CVSS score of 7.5 (High). The vector is network-reachable, low privileges required, and no user interaction. A CVSS score reflects the worst-case severity of the vulnerability, not your specific exposure. Whether this affects your application depends on whether the vulnerable code is present and reachable in your environment.

A fixed version is available (2.6.5). Upgrading removes the vulnerable code path.

Affected versions

Kodem intelligence

Severity tells you how bad this could be in the worst case. It does not tell you whether you are exposed. Exploitability and impact are functions of runtime truth: whether the vulnerable code is present, reachable, and actually executes in your application. A vulnerable package can sit in your dependency tree and never run.

Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to reveal which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so teams prioritize the ones that genuinely matter instead of chasing every advisory.

Kodem's Application Detection and Response identifies whether CVE-2025-24366 is reachable in your applications. Explore runtime application protection for your team.

Frequently asked questions about CVE-2025-24366

What is CVE-2025-24366?

CVE-2025-24366 is a high-severity OS command injection vulnerability in github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2 (go), affecting versions >= 0.9.5, <= 2.6.4. It is fixed in 2.6.5. Untrusted input reaches a shell command, allowing arbitrary commands to run on the host.

How severe is CVE-2025-24366?

CVE-2025-24366 has a CVSS score of 7.5 (High). This score reflects the worst-case severity of the vulnerability, not your specific exposure. Whether it represents real risk in your environment depends on whether the vulnerable code is present and reachable.

Which packages are affected by CVE-2025-24366?
  • github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2 (go) (versions >= 0.9.5, <= 2.6.4)
  • github.com/drakkan/sftpgo (go) (versions <= 1.2.2)
Is there a fix for CVE-2025-24366?

Yes. CVE-2025-24366 is fixed in 2.6.5. Upgrade to this version or later.

Is CVE-2025-24366 exploitable, and should I be worried?

Whether CVE-2025-24366 is exploitable in your environment depends on whether the vulnerable code is present and reachable. A CVSS score is a worst-case rating; it does not account for your specific deployment, configuration, or usage patterns. Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to show which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so you can focus on the ones that represent real risk. What actually determines whether CVE-2025-24366 is exploitable, and how bad it is?

Exploitability and impact are not fixed properties of a CVE. They depend on runtime truth: whether the vulnerable code is present, reachable, and actually executes in your application. A high CVSS score on a dependency that never runs is not the same as real risk. Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to reveal which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so teams prioritize the ones that genuinely matter.

How do I fix CVE-2025-24366?
