CVE-2022-24743

CVE-2022-24743 is a high-severity security vulnerability in sylius/sylius (composer), affecting versions >= 1.10.0, < 1.10.11. It is fixed in 1.10.11, 1.11.2.

Summary

Workarounds

You have to overwrite your Sylius\Bundle\ApiBundle\CommandHandler\ResetPasswordHandler class using this code:

<?php
declare(strict_types=1);

namespace App\CommandHandler\Account;

use Sylius\Bundle\ApiBundle\Command\Account\ResetPassword;
use Sylius\Component\Core\Model\ShopUserInterface;
use Sylius\Component\Resource\Metadata\MetadataInterface;
use Sylius\Component\User\Repository\UserRepositoryInterface;
use Sylius\Component\User\Security\PasswordUpdaterInterface;
use Symfony\Component\Messenger\Handler\MessageHandlerInterface;
use Webmozart\Assert\Assert;

final class ResetPasswordHandler implements MessageHandlerInterface
{
    private UserRepositoryInterface $userRepository;
    private MetadataInterface $metadata;
    private PasswordUpdaterInterface $passwordUpdater;

    public function __construct(
        UserRepositoryInterface $userRepository,
        MetadataInterface $metadata,
        PasswordUpdaterInterface $passwordUpdater
    ) {
        $this->userRepository = $userRepository;
        $this->metadata = $metadata;
        $this->passwordUpdater = $passwordUpdater;
    }

    public function __invoke(ResetPassword $command): void
    {
        /** @var ShopUserInterface|null $user */
        $user = $this->userRepository->findOneBy(['passwordResetToken' => $command->resetPasswordToken]);

        Assert::notNull($user, 'No user found with reset token: ' . $command->resetPasswordToken);

        $resetting = $this->metadata->getParameter('resetting');
        $lifetime = new \DateInterval($resetting['token']['ttl']);

        if (!$user->isPasswordRequestNonExpired($lifetime)) {
            throw new \InvalidArgumentException('Password reset token has expired');
        }

        if ($command->resetPasswordToken !== $user->getPasswordResetToken()) {
            throw new \InvalidArgumentException('Password reset token does not match.');
        }

        $user->setPlainPassword($command->newPassword);

        $this->passwordUpdater->updatePassword($user);
        $user->setPasswordResetToken(null);
    }
}

And register it in container:

App\CommandHandler\Account\ResetPasswordHandler:
    arguments:
        - '@sylius.repository.shop_user'
        - !service
              class: Sylius\Component\Resource\Metadata\MetadataInterface
              factory: [ '@sylius.resource_registry', 'get' ]
              arguments:
                    - 'sylius.shop_user'
                    - '@sylius.security.password_updater'
    tags:
        - { name: messenger.message_handler, bus: sylius.command_bus }
        - { name: messenger.message_handler, bus: sylius_default.bus }

Impact

The reset password token was not set to null after the password was changed. This is causing behaviour in which the same token can be used several times, so it can result in a leak of the existing token and an unauthorised password change.

CVE-2022-24743 has a CVSS score of 7.1 (High). The vector is network-reachable, low privileges required, and no user interaction. A CVSS score reflects the worst-case severity of the vulnerability, not your specific exposure. Whether this affects your application depends on whether the vulnerable code is present and reachable in your environment. A fixed version is available (1.10.11, 1.11.2); upgrading removes the vulnerable code path.

Affected versions

sylius/sylius (>= 1.10.0, < 1.10.11) sylius/sylius (>= 1.11.0, < 1.11.2)

Security releases

sylius/sylius → 1.10.11 (composer) sylius/sylius → 1.11.2 (composer)

Kodem intelligence

Severity tells you how bad this could be in the worst case. It does not tell you whether you are exposed. Exploitability and impact are functions of runtime truth: whether the vulnerable code is present, reachable, and actually executes in your application. A vulnerable package can sit in your dependency tree and never run.

Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to reveal which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so teams prioritize the ones that genuinely matter. Kodem's runtime-powered SCA identifies whether this CVE is reachable in your applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is CVE-2022-24743? CVE-2022-24743 is a high-severity security vulnerability in sylius/sylius (composer), affecting versions >= 1.10.0, < 1.10.11. It is fixed in 1.10.11, 1.11.2.
  2. How severe is CVE-2022-24743? CVE-2022-24743 has a CVSS score of 7.1 (High). This score reflects the worst-case severity of the vulnerability, not your specific exposure. Whether it represents real risk in your environment depends on whether the vulnerable code is present and reachable.
  3. Which versions of sylius/sylius are affected by CVE-2022-24743? sylius/sylius (composer) versions >= 1.10.0, < 1.10.11 is affected.
  4. Is there a fix for CVE-2022-24743? Yes. CVE-2022-24743 is fixed in 1.10.11, 1.11.2. Upgrade to this version or later.
  5. Is CVE-2022-24743 exploitable, and should I be worried? Whether CVE-2022-24743 is exploitable in your environment depends on whether the vulnerable code is present and reachable. A CVSS score is a worst-case rating; it does not account for your specific deployment, configuration, or usage patterns. Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to show which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so you can focus on the ones that represent real risk. 6. What actually determines whether CVE-2022-24743 is exploitable, and how bad it is? Exploitability and impact are not fixed properties of a CVE. They depend on runtime truth: whether the vulnerable code is present, reachable, and actually executes in your application. A high CVSS score on a dependency that never runs is not the same as real risk. Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to reveal which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so teams prioritize the ones that genuinely matter.
  7. How do I fix CVE-2022-24743?
    • Upgrade sylius/sylius to 1.10.11 or later
    • Upgrade sylius/sylius to 1.11.2 or later
