CVE-2026-42031

CVE-2026-42031 is a high-severity SQL injection vulnerability in ckan (pip), affecting versions < 2.10.10. It is fixed in 2.10.10, 2.11.5.

Summary

Workarounds

Disable the DataStore SQL search (ckan.datastore.sqlsearch.enabled = false). Note that the SQL search is disabled by default.

More information

As stated in the documentation, this action function has protections that offer some safety but are not designed to prevent all types of abuse. Depending on the sensitivity of private data in a project's DataStore and the likelihood of abuse of a consuming site, a developer may choose to disable this action function or restrict its use with a IAuthFunctions plugin.

Impact

A vulnerability in datastore_search_sql allowed attackers to inject SQL in order to gain access to private resources and PostgreSQL system information.

Untrusted input alters a database query, allowing the attacker to read or modify data the query was not intended to access. Typical impact: data disclosure or modification.

Affected versions

ckan (< 2.10.10) ckan (>= 2.11.0, <= 2.11.4)

Security releases

ckan → 2.10.10 (pip) ckan → 2.11.5 (pip)

Kodem intelligence

Severity tells you how bad this could be in the worst case. It does not tell you whether you are exposed. Exploitability and impact are functions of runtime truth: whether the vulnerable code is present, reachable, and actually executes in your application. A vulnerable package can sit in your dependency tree and never run.

Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to reveal which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so teams prioritize the ones that genuinely matter. Kodem's runtime-powered SCA identifies whether this CVE is reachable in your applications.

Remediation advice

The issue has been patched in CKAN 2.10.10 and CKAN 2.11.5

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is CVE-2026-42031? CVE-2026-42031 is a high-severity SQL injection vulnerability in ckan (pip), affecting versions < 2.10.10. It is fixed in 2.10.10, 2.11.5. Untrusted input alters a database query, allowing the attacker to read or modify data the query was not intended to access.
  2. Which versions of ckan are affected by CVE-2026-42031? ckan (pip) versions < 2.10.10 is affected.
  3. Is there a fix for CVE-2026-42031? Yes. CVE-2026-42031 is fixed in 2.10.10, 2.11.5. Upgrade to this version or later.
  4. Is CVE-2026-42031 exploitable, and should I be worried? Whether CVE-2026-42031 is exploitable in your environment depends on whether the vulnerable code is present and reachable. A CVSS score is a worst-case rating; it does not account for your specific deployment, configuration, or usage patterns. Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to show which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so you can focus on the ones that represent real risk. 5. What actually determines whether CVE-2026-42031 is exploitable, and how bad it is? Exploitability and impact are not fixed properties of a CVE. They depend on runtime truth: whether the vulnerable code is present, reachable, and actually executes in your application. A high CVSS score on a dependency that never runs is not the same as real risk. Kodem, an Intelligent Application Security platform, uses runtime intelligence to reveal which vulnerabilities actually execute in production, so teams prioritize the ones that genuinely matter.
  6. How do I fix CVE-2026-42031?
    • Upgrade ckan to 2.10.10 or later
    • Upgrade ckan to 2.11.5 or later
